Soviets Leave Afghanistan

You’re excellent coverage (Part I, May 16-17) of the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan mentioned 30,000-50,000 Russian casualties, but, unfortunately, there was never any mention of Afghan casualties.
More than 1 million Afghan men, women, and children were killed during the war due mainly to Russian aerial assaults.
That’s close to 10% of the country’s total population. How many more were wounded is anybody’s guess.
The slaughter of these poor, innocent people must not be forgotten or overlooked.
