The county Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved an agreement with the Port District for an 18-month health-risk study of San Diego Bay.
The study will evaluate the risk to people who eat fish taken from the bay, which several state and federal studies have shown to be one of the most polluted bodies of water in the country.
Those studies, however, were based on samples of fish caught in limited parts of the bay, prompting the more detailed study. The Port District will fund the $284,000 study, which will be conducted by members of the county’s hazardous materials management division.
