The State : Plea Filed in Jet Baby Case

A New York woman who allegedly gave birth in a restroom aboard an airliner and left her newborn daughter in a mass of blood-soaked towels under the sink has pleaded innocent to a charge of child endangerment in San Mateo, Calif. Christina Marie Locasto, 24, of Staten Island, apparently gave birth in the restroom of the United Airlines DC-10 on a flight from Newark, N.J., to San Francisco, investigators said. Her husband, Louis, 26, was with her and two other children on the flight. He said he had not known his wife was pregnant. He was not arrested. The 8-pound, 9-ounce infant was listed in stable condition at a San Mateo hospital where nurses named her Elizabeth. Dozens of callers offered to adopt the baby. Detectives, who traced Locasto through the passenger list, booked her for investigation of attempted murder after she turned herself in, but prosecutors filed a lesser charge. If convicted, Locasto could face up to six years in prison. Her attorney said she was “very remorseful, very distraught” and deeply regretted what happened.
