Prabhaker Wins in Upset

Veena Prabhaker, who will be a senior at Bonita Vista High, upset top-seeded Audra Keller in the United States Tennis Assn. National Hardcourt Tennis Championships for boys and girls ages 16 and under Thursday at the Almaden Valley Athletic Club at San Jose.
Prabhaker, who was seeded 15th, defeated Keller, who is from Memphis, 6-1, 6-0, to advance to today’s quarterfinals.
Hugh Bream has been named the associate coach in charge of men’s tennis at San Diego State University. Bream replaces Skip Redondo, who accepted the teaching-pro job at Le Meridien Hotel in Coronado.
Bream, 31, has been the men’s tennis coach at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo since 1981. Before that, he coached the boys’ U.S. Junior Davis Cup team and the U.S. World Cup Team from 1986-88.
FOOTBALL
Former San Diego State safety Harold Hicks came to terms Wednesday with the Super Bowl champion Washington Redskins.
Hicks was the Redskins’ seventh-round selection.
SAILING
San Diego area residents and visitors can see the Stars & Stripes catamarans go to sea and return to the dock each day from a specially constructed viewing area.
The area, located on the western side of the Stars & Stripes dockside compound on West Harbor Drive, is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Visitors will be able to see the Stars & Stripes team at work, preparing the boats to be lifted from their cradles and launched.
