Stuart Thomas, a former star basketball player at Mater Dei High School, said Friday that he is leaving Stanford University.
Thomas, who graduated from Mater Dei in 1986, averaged three points per game for the Cardinal as a sophomore last season. At Mater Dei, he played on two Southern Section 4-A championship teams.
“The school was great, but there wasn’t anything happening for me in basketball,” said Thomas, a 6-foot 9-inch forward. “I didn’t get that much playing time, and the same guys have been there the whole time, so it didn’t look like it was going to get any better.”
Thomas said he has not decided where he will transfer.
