Baker Hughes Inc. reported third-quarter earnings of $13.5 million, contrasted with a loss of $41.2 million a year ago. Revenue rose 20% to $564.1 million. The Houston-based oil, gas and mining company said that although price concerns had curtailed drilling activity in the United States, the mix of drilling rigs working had been favorable. Baker Hughes was formed by the $1.2-billion merger of Baker International Corp. of Orange with Hughes Tool Co. of Houston last year.
