Thirty Vietnamese refugees in Thailand camps, depressed by slim prospects of resettlement in third countries, have attempted suicide in the last few months, relief officials in Bangkok said. They said two succeeded in taking their lives in Phanat Nikom camp in eastern Thailand. They were among 15,000 people in the camp. In January, Thailand barred all new “boat people” from seeking resettlement in third countries in an effort to deter further refugees.
