Sports Briefs : Lynwood Coach Girard Leaves

Van Girard, 34, who coached the Lynwood High School girls’ basketball team to 10 straight Southern Section playoff trips, has been named women’s basketball coach at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Swim for Heart Aug. 20 in Montebello

More than 50 swimmers are expected to participate in Swim for Heart on Aug. 20 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Montebello City Park Plunge, 1300 W. Olympic Blvd. The event, sponsored by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, will benefit the American Heart Assn. Baseball Camp in Lakewood
