May Department Stores’ second-quarter profit was up 3% from a year ago to $63 million. Sales rose 21% to $2.72 billion. The figures for St. Louis-based May include results from the 38-store Foley’s and 18-store Filene’s department store divisions. The quarter also includes a pretax gain of $47 million relating to the sale of May Florida, and pretax charges of $26 million for costs of closing stores and $22 million for integrating Foley’s and Filene’s.
