A brush fire in a remote area of North County east of Fallbrook burned an estimated 15 acres Thursday and was expected to continue through the night.
The fire began shortly before 5:30 p.m. near Pala Temecula Road, according to a spokesman for the California Department of Forestry. Two air tankers were used to drop retardant on the flames, but were grounded at nightfall.
Because of the steep and rocky terrain, containment before morning would be difficult, firefighters said.
No buildings were threatened by the fire. Its cause had not been determined.
