San Diego State Dedicates New Aztec Athletic Center

SAN DIEGO — Diego State on Friday dedicated its $3.5-million Aztec Athletic Center, which serves as headquarters for the Aztec football team and a sports medicine facility.
The 32,000-square-foot center was built as a donation from the San Diego chapter of the Associate General Contractors of America and the Building Trades Council. Only $200,000 in school funds were used.
The complex includes a 9,000-square-foot weight room, locker room, players’ lounge, equipment room, coaches’ offices, meeting and film rooms and the sports medicine clinic.
Ground was broken for the three-building complex in December, 1986, and construction began the next spring. The facility is now fully operational as the Aztec football team begins preparation for its Sept. 3 regular-season opener against UCLA at the Rose Bowl.
