Fifty-five anti-abortion activists were arrested in Atlanta for blocking the entrance to a clinic, bringing the number arrested during demonstrations in the last month to more than 400, authorities said. The 55 protesters arrested at the Atlanta SurgiCenter were charged with criminal trespass, obstruction of a sidewalk or highway and giving a false name, police officials said. The activists, like about half of those previously arrested, refused to give their identities, calling themselves “Baby John Doe” or “Baby Jane Doe,” in solidarity, they said, with aborted fetuses. Since the demonstrations began on July 19 during the Democratic National Convention, 436 arrests have been made and 215 people were still in jail.
