The Last Temptations

The media furor surrounding “The Last Temptation of Christ” has, tragically, given vivid life to all the stereotypes non-Christians have of Christians and confirmed their very worst fears.

As self-appointed apologists spouted and raved for the TV cameras, the subliminal message became clear: Christians are intolerant, narrow-minded and obsessed with control.

Special thanks, incidentally, to the Rev. Paul Crouch for telling us that the film should be “burned at the stake.”

In saying this, he puts the protest into its precise historical context and identifies its spiritual ancestry: not the gentle carpenter of Nazareth, but the inquisitors of 16th Century Spain.
