Meanwhile, Palm Springs Mayor Sonny Bono is telling everybody that he got a call from Vice President George Bush (who is also running for President) on Aug. 12, asking Bono to lend a hand with the GOP presidential campaign. Bono added that Bush “sounded genuinely enthusiastic to have me involved.” Bono said he quickly acceded to the vice president’s request, adding that he’d help Bush out whenever he had time off from the burdens of running Palm Springs’ municipal government.
