A 30-year-old San Diego man escaped from the county’s minimum-security jail near El Toro Monday night, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department reported Tuesday.
Craig E. Clifford, who was being held at James A. Musick branch jail for failure to appear in court on charges of driving with a suspended license and without proper lights on his license plate, was discovered missing in a late-night head count of inmates, according to Lt. Richard J. Olson of the Sheriff’s Department.
Clifford was jailed Aug. 9 after warrants for his arrest were discovered when he was stopped for a minor traffic incident in Orange County, Olson said. He was scheduled to be released Sept. 23.
