‘Rabbit’ Punch?

Disney Prod. has KTVU-TV in Oakland hopping mad. The indie station was set to air “The Making of ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit,’ ” its own documentary--partially comprised of Disney publicity clips--on the production of the hit live-animation film. But the day before the August 19 air date, Disney squelched it--the studio and CBS plans to broadcast their own behind-the-scenes special, “Roger Rabbit and the Secrets of Toon Town,” September 13.
“There’s been a lot of screaming going on here,” said a source at the station. “They strong-armed us. Imagine, we promoted our program heavily, the newspaper reviews were out, and suddenly some Disney big wig called and our show was pulled.”
Disney veep Gary Krisel told us that the unauthorized show “made use of unauthorized materials. There just wasn’t enough time to review it--it should not air before our CBS special.”
Krisel added that KTVU, which airs other Disney programs, is “one of our favorite stations.”
But the matter’s not resolved, according to another KTVU source--a letter arrived from Disney as we went to press trying to thwart any airing of the program, ever.
