NEW YORK — The 40th Annual Primetime Emmys found a bigger audience than the previous year, but the show proved again that Fox Broadcasting doesn’t have the drawing power of the big three networks, according to figures reported today.
The Emmy awards, broadcast Sunday, marked the second year of a three-year, $3.75-million contract between Fox and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. This year the show achieved a tie for 33rd place on a list of 69 shows for the week, with a 10.4 rating and an 18 share. Last year’s show ranked 50th out of 62 shows, with an 8.8 rating and a 14 share, the lowest Emmy rating ever. In 1986, NBC’s broadcast of the awards show turned up in third place on the Neilsen list, with a 23.1 rating and a 36 share.
