Healthy Choice for Labor Day : Put an Italian-Style Ground Turkey Burger on the Grill

With these low-calorie, low-fat, low-sodium burgers on the Labor Day menu, health watchers are sure to indulge. They are made with ground turkey and barbecued on the grill. To further enhance the taste of the meat, onion and garlic powders and black and red pepper are added.

An ice cube is placed in the center of each burger to act as a self-baster. It prevents the meat from drying out during cooking.

ITALIAN-STYLE TURKEY BURGERS

3 tablespoons instant minced onion

1 1/2 teaspoons oregano leaves, crumbled

3/4 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper

1 1/4 pounds ground turkey

4 small ice cubes

Combine onion, oregano, garlic powder, salt and peppers in shallow bowl and set aside.

Divide turkey into 4 equal portions, then shape into patties. Place ice cube in center of each patty. Sprinkle ice cube with dash seasoning mixture. Bring meat around ice cube to seal in cube and flatten to form oval about 1/2-inch thick.
