Center to Mark 25th Anniversary

Founders and early board members of the Volunteer Center, South Bay-Harbor-Long Beach, will be honored at a 25th anniversary tea to be held Sept. 15 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hasson of Torrance.
The agency was founded in 1963 by members of the Junior League of Long Beach. The center’s executive director, De De Hicks, said: “During that first year 34 volunteers were placed in 24 different agencies.”
In 1987, center workers worked closely with almost 500 agencies, making more than 10,000 referrals to individuals and groups who wanted to volunteer their time and talents, Hicks said.
