RELIGION NOTES : Polish Center Plans Harvest Festival

John Paul II Polish Center of Orange County will hold its 10th annual Harvest Festival Sept. 17 and 18 on the church grounds at 3999 Rose Drive, Yorba Linda.
Folk singing, dancing and music will be presented each afternoon. Displays of artifacts from Poland will be presented by the Polish-American Cultural Network. The festival will feature such Polish specialties as pierogi, kapusta, kielbasa, cabbage rolls, naleskini and a variety of cakes. Polish cookbooks, cards, pictures, records, imports, linens and gift items will be available in the church’s gift store. The festival will be from 2 to 7 p.m., with a Harvest Mass in English at 5:15 p.m. on Sept. 17, and at 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 18. A dance will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 17. Cost is $4.

A welcome and information coffee will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday at Placentia Presbyterian Church, 849 N. Bradford Ave., Placentia. The social will provide an opportunity for visitors to learn about the church and its programs. For information, call (714) 528-1438.

Jewish High Holidays will be celebrated at 10:30 p.m. today at Congregation B’nai Tzedek, 9669 Talbert Ave., Fountain Valley. A Selichot (penitential) service will be held in the sanctuary at midnight. For information, call (714) 963-4611.
Temple Isaiah of Newport Beach will hold a Selichot service open house at 9 p.m today at 2401 Irvine Ave., Newport Beach. The event will be directed by Rabbi Steven D. Schatz. Wintersburg Presbyterian Church will hold its annual Food Festival on Sept. 10 from 3 to 9 p.m. at 13711 Fairview Ave., Garden Grove. Features of the festival will include a variety of Japanese foods, children’s games, exhibitions of flower arrangements, calligraphy, bonsai and Japanese dolls. Admission is free. The Rev. Larry Coulter will preach at the 9:30 a.m. Sunday service at the Laguna Presbyterian Church, 415 Forest Ave., Laguna Beach. Members of the congregation are asked to bring canned goods and non-perishable foods to replenish the shelves at Bell Gardens, the Presbyterian-sponsored Neighborhood House.
