The Utah Jazz announced that 6-foot 11-inch backup center Mel Turpin has been traded to Zaragoza, Spain, for 6-10 center Jose Ortiz. Ortiz, formerly of Oregon State, was drafted No.1 by the Jazz in 1987 but chose to play in Spain. He was the Pacific 10 player of the year in 1987, when he averaged 22.3 points and 8.7 rebounds a game.
