MOSCOW — Yuri M. Churbanov, the son-in-law of the late Soviet leader Leonid I. Brezhnev, admitted on the fourth day of his trial Thursday that he abused his office as a top police official but denied that he took bribes.
Churbanov, 51, a former first deputy interior minister, has been accused of being at the center of a multimillion-dollar, nationwide web of corruption.
A bribery conviction could carry the death penalty, his lawyer said Thursday. Abuse of office carries a 10-year jail sentence.
