Longtime Assistant Peraza Replaces White as Baseball Coach at Oxnard

George Peraza, an Oxnard College assistant baseball coach for nine years, has been selected the school’s head coach, Athletic Director Don Brockett said Tuesday.
Peraza replaces Jerry White, who had been the coach at Oxnard since 1978, excluding 1986.
White guided the Condors to five Western State Conference divisional titles and eight appearances in the WSC playoffs. White compiled a 235-100 record while coaching at Oxnard and Moorpark colleges and Hueneme High.
“Replacing someone like that will be very difficult because he’s been so successful,” Peraza said. “He’s been a great motivator and he prepared players well. Hopefully I will continue that direction.”
When White resigned because of health reasons in July, he strongly recommended Peraza as his replacement. Rich Herrera, White’s other assistant coach, was recently named coach at Westlake High.
Peraza, a teacher at Thousand Oaks High, was an assistant under White at Oxnard and Moorpark for 12 seasons.
