Baseball’s pennant races are going down to the wire and the football season is in full bloom, but for the next two weeks sports fans around the world will be focusing on Seoul, Korea, site of the XXIV Olympiad.
NBC, which has not covered an Olympics since 1972 (planned coverage of the 1980 Games was scrapped because of the U.S. boycott), paid $300 million for the rights to televise these Games. Bryant Gumbel, working as prime-time studio anchor, heads the small army of NBC personnel in Seoul for the coverage.
The Games continue daily through Oct. 2, with NBC offering morning, afternoon, prime-time and late-evening coverage each day.
