FHP International, a health maintenance organization based in Fountain Valley, reported record earnings and revenue for the fiscal year ended June 30. Earnings totaled $16.5 million, a 138% increase from the $6.9 million posted a year earlier. Revenue jumped 37% to $503.5 million from $367.5 million a year earlier. Robert Gumbiner, chairman and chief executive officer, attributed the increases to membership growth, cost-effective use of medical resources and a significant federal government rate increase for the company’s senior plan. Net income for the fourth quarter totaled $6.1 million, contrasted with a loss of $1.8 million for the comparable quarter of fiscal 1987. Revenue rose 49% to $145.1 million from $97.7 million.
