JEFFERSON, N. H. — After a monthlong break from arson, fire of suspicious origin gutted a log cabin in this small town where there have been 20 fires since May 5, police said Wednesday.
No one was in the cabin when it burned Tuesday night, and state police Lt. Gary Sloper said a preliminary investigation concluded that the fire had been set.
The cabin is within a mile of previous suspicious fires in homes, barns and fields that have caused alarm around Jefferson, a tourist community of about 800 people west of the White Mountains.
