Former presidential aide Michael K. Deaver filed a formal appeal in U.S. District Court in Washington of his conviction that he lied under oath when questioned by a grand jury and a House subcommittee about his lobbying activities. The former deputy White House chief of staff was given a suspended three-year sentence and a $100,000 fine last month by U.S. District Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson. He was convicted last year of lying in 1986 to a grand jury and the House Energy and Commerce oversight subcommittee that investigated whether his lobbying of former Reagan Administration colleagues violated conflict-of-interest laws.
