ATLANTA — Police arrested about 250 anti-abortion activists at two Atlanta clinics today as the opening round of what protest organizers say will be a four-day “Siege of Atlanta” got under way.
“They’re blocking the street, they’re failing to disperse, so we’re locking them up,” Police Capt. W. W. Holley said. More than 100 demonstrators arrived at one mid-town abortion facility, many of them crawling up the street toward the small brick building. A mile away, two groups demonstrated at another clinic. One group made attempts to get inside the building and the other sat on the ground singing hymns.
