A restaurant owner nominated by the Chamber of Commerce was appointed this week to the committee responsible for organizing a nonprofit corporation to operate West Hollywood’s $1.2-million comprehensive center for the homeless.
Gabrielle Boone was appointed by the City Council Monday, becoming the final person selected for the 10-member steering committee.
The committee is to make recommendations on articles of incorporation and bylaws and is expected to influence who is appointed to the corporation’s board of directors. City officials have said they hope to have the board in place early next year.
Plans for the proposed 70-bed facility, to be located in a renovated warehouse at 1033 La Brea Ave., have met with opposition from a group of east-side merchants and residents. Officials have said they hope to open the center by next summer.
