Prep Football : Tustin’s Defense Shuts Down Ocean View, 10-0
- Share via
For the second consecutive week, Tustin High School scored a major upset, shutting out Ocean View, 10-0, in a nonleague game at Tustin.
The Tillers (2-3) defeated El Toro, 17-14, last week in a defensive battle, and Friday night was more of the same. Aaron Gutridge’s 44-yard interception return for a touchdown with 9:02 left was the game’s only touchdown.
Tustin scored on its first possession when Casey Mazzotta kicked a 33-yard field goal midway through the first quarter.
Ocean View (3-2) was limited to 52 yards. Tustin gained 190 yards. Ron Woods led the Tillers with 70 yards in 22 carries. Senior quarterback Monty Jones was 6 of 16 for 63 yards.
“This was an upset,” said Marijon Ancich, Tustin’s coach. “I think the difference the past couple of weeks has been the mental preparation. And tonight we were fortunate to beat a fine Sunset League team.”
