LaRouche Blames Dukakis and Calls Charges ‘Garbage’

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Political extremist Lyndon LaRouche, arraigned today on charges of mail fraud and tax evasion, called the indictment “garbage” and claimed that Democrat Michael S. Dukakis orchestrated the charges to destroy LaRouche’s own presidential campaign.
“This is purely a political stunt,” LaRouche said. “This is a piece of garbage. I’m not guilty of anything.”
“This is not accidental (that) this action should come three weeks before the election,” said LaRouche, 66, a four-time presidential candidate known for his outrageous views. “This is a screwball charge. The government knows I had nothing to do with (illegally) raising $34 million.”
“Benito Mussolini committed great sins,” LaRouche said. “According to recent appearances, he has been punished for his crimes by being reincarnated as Michael Dukakis.”
