County Elections Promise More Than a Measure of Controversy : Backing for Naming County School Chief

Congratulations on your understanding and support of the “appoint” argument on Measure A!
It is unfortunate that voters often find school board elections and measures too boring or too complicated to investigate. Whether you have children in school or not, the impact of education and the administration of the finances for local education reflects on all members of this county, either in the short or long term.
Voters may falsely believe they are losing a right to vote (elect) for the county superintendent of schools, when in reality an “appoint” vote means they are allowing their elected board of education to appoint the most qualified applicant (not the most political) to this position, with a certainty of check/balance.
Obligating the elected County Board of Education to choose carefully and regularly evaluate performance of the superintendent’s position will give voters more, not less, information and control over this level of the education bureaucracy in this county.
