Cigna Corp.’s third-quarter net income dropped 40% from last year to $114.2 million. The Philadelphia-based property and casualty, health-care and financial services company said the results were due to higher underwriting losses, including a $30-million pretax loss on claims resulting from Hurricane Gilbert and a decline in prices linked with the continuing downturn in the industry.
