ST. PAUL — Michael S. Dukakis received the state’s 10 electoral votes, but the heir to the Humphrey political dynasty was defeated in his race for the U.S. Senate.
Dukakis held a 55% to 45% lead with 65% of the vote counted.
In the race for the Senate seat once held by former Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey, his son and namesake, Hubert III, lost handily to incumbent Republican Dave Durenberger. Durenberger pulled in 54% of the vote to 43% for Humphrey, the state attorney general.
The House delegation retained its 5-3 split in favor of the Democrats.
