Lead yachts in the Los Angeles Yacht Club’s 876-mile Cabo San Lucas race, via Guadalupe Island, edged past the halfway mark as light winds continued to slow the 36-boat fleet after 4 days of sailing.
The Peterson-66 Cheetah, co-skippered by Dick Pennington and Phil Murray of Long Beach Yacht Club, held the boat-for-boat and handicap lead in the International Offshore Rule (IOR) fleet standings with 341 miles still to go.
IOR Class B leader was Hal Day’s Winterhawk of Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club, with 364 miles to go, and Dick Daniels’ MacGregor-65, Joss of Long Beach Yacht Club, was leading the Performance Handicap Racing Fleet with 355 miles to go.
