Community College Roundup : Orange Coast, Rancho Santiago Tie for Conference Soccer Crown

Orange Coast and Rancho Santiago colleges posted victories Thursday to tie for the Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer title. OCC defeated Cypress, 7-1, and Rancho Santiago blanked Golden West, 4-0.
Tom Van Betten had 3 goals, Jason Henniger 2 and John Bovetas and Kevin Kynoch 1 each for host OCC (16-4-4 overall and 7-0-3 in conference play).
Raul Aceves scored 2 goals for host Rancho Santiago and Jose Flores and Manuel Garcia each scored a goal for the Dons. Golden West is 10-8-3, 4-4-2.
OCC and Rancho Santiago advance into the Southern California Regionals next Saturday.
In other Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer matches:
Fullerton 9, Riverside 1--Jeff Holcombe scored 5 goals and Jeff Gorden 2 to lead host Fullerton (7-9-2, 5-5) in the season finale for both teams.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball:
Fullerton 3, Saddleback 0--Sue Guest had 11 kills to lead host Fullerton to a 15-1, 15-4, 15-4 sweep. Fullerton is 14-3, 10-2. Fullerton finished in a tie for second with Riverside behind conference champion Golden West.
Orange Coast 3, Rancho Santiago 0--Jeana Weber had 12 kills and 7 digs as Orange Coast swept, 15-11, 15-6, 17-15, at Rancho Santiago. OCC is 7-11, 5-5.
