Local News in Brief : Nun Finds Newborn Lying in Church Yard

A 6-pound baby boy, thought to be just 2 hours old, was rescued by a nun who found him lying face down in a Los Angeles church yard, his umbilical cord still attached, police said Friday.
The child was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where he was stable and responding to doctors and nurses, hospital spokesman Ron Wise said.
The child was found face down in the yard of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in the Mid-City area about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Officer Don Lawrence said. Police were searching for the baby’s mother, he said.
