Having Fun at Canada’s Expense Isn’t Funny

Mike Downey’s attempt at wit in his “Oh, Canada” column (Nov. 9) failed miserably, but that is always a hazard when one tries to be funny at another’s expense.

I will not attempt to counter Downey’s numerous insulting wisecracks; it would be a waste of time. Suffice to say Canada has one-tenth the population of the United States. To paraphrase John McKay, 2 billion Chinese aren’t going to worry about how many medals Canada or the United States won in the Olympics.
