The Mission Viejo High School football team capped an unbeaten regular season Friday night by defeating host Dana Hills, 34-0, in front of 1,000.
The Diablos, the South Coast League champions and the No. 1 ranked team in Orange County, finished the season 10-0 overall and 5-0 in league play.
Dana Hills finished at 3-6-1 overall and 2-3 in league play.
Mission Viejo quarterback Troy Kopp threw 3 touchdown passes and scored another touchdown on a 12-yard run. Two of his scoring passes went to Eric Ekdahl, who also rushed for a 1-yard touchdown and kicked 4 extra points.
Mission Viejo scored first midway through the second quarter on a 24-yard pass from Kopp to Ekdahl. That play was set up when the Diablos recovered a fumbled punt.
“When I looked at our schedule at the beginning of the year, who we had to play, I never thought we’d go unbeaten,” Mission Viejo Coach Mike Rush said. “I didn’t even think about such a thing.”
