Arcadia fullback Dino Pasquale rushed for a game-high 78 yards in 15 carries and caught a 10-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter as the Apaches ended Crescenta Valley’s playoff hopes with a 10-0 victory Friday at Arcadia.
The victory assured Arcadia of a berth in the Southern Section Division II playoffs and knocked Crescenta Valley (3-7, 2-3) into fourth place in the Pacific League.
Arcadia (7-3, 4-1 in league play) nursed a 3-0 lead before mounting a scoring drive midway through the final period. The Apaches marched to the Crescenta Valley 10 where quarterback Ed Benioff connected with Pasquale on a fourth-and-4 play.
Jeff Folsom had given Arcadia a 3-0 lead in the second quarter on a 24-yard field goal.
Crescenta Valley apparently had taken the lead in the first quarter when Hyok Chang threw 47-yard pass to Dan Hernandez in the end zone, but an illegal-motion penalty nullified the play. Chang, who was sacked 6 times for minus-40 yards, completed 4 of 13 passes for 54 yards.
