Berkeley film maker Mark Kitchell needs about $40,000 to complete his documentary, “Berkeley in the Sixties”--so he’s looking for financial support from ex-’60s types now part of the comfy Hollywood Establishment.

Producer-director Tony Bill and wife Antoinette will host an invitational screening Dec. 1 at Bill’s Venice headquarters and a benefit at Bill’s “in” restaurant, 72 Market Street.

About $250,000 has already been raised through grass-roots efforts involving Berkeleyites. The documentary will use archival and newsreel footage, photos, music and interviews to document the Free Speech Movement, anti-war protests, the counter-culture, People’s Park, the Black Panthers and the women’s movement.

“We’re hoping that Hollywood will respond to what we believe is more than just a documentary of images about the ‘60s,” said associate producer Kevin Pina. “It’s about an era that was an incubation for a certain sense of values.”
