Orlando Canizales will make the first defense of his International Boxing Federation bantamweight title against Frankie Duarte Jan. 15.
The nationally televised 12-round bout will be held in Miami, site of Super Bowl XXIII, a week before the game.
Canizales, who has a 20-1-1 record with 17 knockouts, won the title on a 15th-round knockout over Kelvin Seabrooks last July.
Duarte, who fights for the Ten Goose Boxing Club of North Hollywood and has a 44-7-1 record with 32 knockouts, will be taking his second shot at a world title. He lost a 15-round decision to Bernardo Pinango, then the World Boxing Assn. champion, in February 1987.
