ATLANTA — The number of abortions in the United States each year is holding steady, according to the latest figures today from the Centers for Disease Control.
The CDC said 1,328,570 legal abortions were performed in the United States in 1985, the latest year for which statistics are available; that is “virtually no change” from 1984, when 1,333,521 legal abortions were performed. In 1985, as in previous years, the typical woman obtaining an abortion in the United States was young, white and single with no children.
