A San Mateo County Superior Court judge refused to move the murder trial of Joe Hunt, the charismatic leader of the Billionaire Boys Club who is accused of killing a wealthy Iranian exile. Judge Dale Hahn said nationwide publicity about Hunt, the club and the murder had made the location of the trial a moot point. Hahn singled out a 1987 NBC docudrama on Hunt as possibly prejudicing potential jurors throughout the state. “It seems clear the docudrama presents the greatest potential source of that danger,” Hahn said. “The risk of that TV show infecting that verdict would be the same whether the case was tried here or anyplace else in California.” Two weeks ago, Hunt, 28, was granted the right to act as his own attorney, and he said he would appeal Hahn’s decision.
