Talk show host Morton Downey Jr. collected the highly avoided Sour Apple award--bestowed Sunday, as it is every year, by the Hollywood Women’s Press Club upon the entertainment personality judged “least newsworthy or most taken by his own publicity.” On the other hand, the club bestowed Golden Apples on those celebrities who did the most this year to promote the industry’s public image. Winners included Kevin Costner, Tom Hanks, Sigourney Weaver, Ron Perlman and Roseanne Barr. Tom Selleck and Edward James Olmos won special awards.
