ROME — Police in Italy and West Germany have charged more than 20 people in connection with international trade in stolen leased luxury cars, Italian police said Monday.
Police said the gang was suspected of stealing more than 2,000 vehicles over the past three years for sale mainly in France, Japan and the United States. The cars were leased in Italy under fictitious names, driven to Munich, West Germany, provided with false documents and license plates, sold to other gangs and then reported as stolen to Italian authorities, police said.
