Local News in Brief : Canceled Insurance Shuts AIDS Center
- Share via
A Hollywood AIDS testing center closed Tuesday because a Boston insurance company canceled the facility’s malpractice coverage for physical exams and drawing blood.
The Gay and Lesbian Community Services Center, which offers anonymous AIDS testing, will remain closed until at least Friday while officials try to arrange coverage to replace the policy canceled by Lexington Insurance Co., said Wendy Greuel, an aide to Mayor Tom Bradley.
Bradley sent a letter to Lexington Insurance on Tuesday, asking the company to extend the center’s policy until it can find another insurer. The company could not be reached for comment.
