From our Godfather of Soul Watch: James Brown testified in a South Carolina court Wednesday that he led law enforcement officers on a 90-mile chase through two states because he was “scared to death” about what would happen if he stopped. Brown was arrested Sept. 24 after a chase through Augusta, Ga., and North Augusta, S.C. He was accused of trying to run over two law enforcement officers and failing to heed their blue light and siren. The soul legend could receive up to 30 years in prison if convicted. Brown testified that he didn’t remember driving 80 m.p.h. (as police said he had), and that when he did stop, the officers scared him by shooting at his truck and banging on the windows.
