Employees of a Sun Valley printing plant escaped injury Thursday when a portion of the building’s roof collapsed under the weight of water sprayed onto it from a broken fire hydrant, authorities said.
The incident was reported about 1:30 p.m. at Patton printing company, a division of Alford Industries, in the 9400 block of Chivers Avenue, said Battalion Chief Neil F. Bullock of the Los Angeles City Fire Department.
A big-rig truck was making a delivery to the plant when it sheared a nearby fire hydrant, sending thousands of gallons of water onto the roof of the building, Bullock said.
Although there were about 15 employees in the building at the time, there were no injuries, he said.
Damage was estimated at about $500,000, Bullock said.
