Defensive end Reggie Rogers of the Detroit Lions was ordered to stand trial on reduced charges of 3 counts of negligent homicide in an Oct. 20 traffic accident in which three teen-agers died. No trial date was set. Rogers remained free on $10,000 personal bond.
Rogers had been charged on 3 counts of involuntary manslaughter in the crash in downtown Pontiac, Mich. Conviction on any of the charges carried up to 15 years in prison, but the reduced charges mean Rogers will face a maximum 2-year sentence if convicted of any of the 3 counts, said his attorney, Elbert Hatchett.
Robin Reese, 18, testified that she was with Rogers at the time of the crash, and that he had been drinking beer while driving. Police allege that Rogers ran a red light before slamming into the other vehicle and that his blood-alcohol level was .15, above the legal limit in Michigan.
